Hotshoe Gallery are pleased to play host to Here and Now: Recent Recordings, a group show by graduates of LCC’s Online MA Photojournalism & Documentary Photography.

The projects on show are as diverse in subject and style as they are in geographical location. Works range from a study of Socotra (a remote island off the coast of Yemen) and a look at the disappearing culture of South African Bushmen to a psychogeographical investigation of the North and South Circular roads in London, via sea nomads of Indonesia, to Asian teenagers in the UK.

Here and Now brings together these projects and photographers for the first time in one place. The works were shot in South Africa, London, Socotra, Haiti, Darfur, Peacehaven, Malta, Indonesia, South Korea.

“We use almost every trick in the web 2.0 book to deliver the course, from live web conferencing for the lectures and tutorials, to blogs and Twitter to keep in touch and share and discuss work… The photographers studying online are living in Israel, Mozambique, Japan, America, Turkey and even in London, a few hundred yards from the college. The course was inspired by the realisation that most professional photographers conduct much of their activity online now, generating images digitally, transmitting them via FTP, and speaking to their clients and editors via Skype. We try to reflect this as much as possible in delivering the course, and sitting in my office in front of the computer with headphones on, engaging with photographers scattered all over the globe, sharing and discussing their ideas, projects and images, is a magical experience.”

Paul Lowe, course director, Online MA Photojournalism & Documentary Photography, for the BJP
